Topic Three 'The Persuasion Playbook' will explore the rhetorical devices of ethos, logos and pathos. It will examine how advertisers effectively use these devices to create representations that allow them to sell their products.

Learning Aims: I can define ethos, logos and pathos and identify their usage in an advertisement. I can also critique and examine the use of rhetorical devices in advertisements.

Success: I have read the article on ethos, pathos and logos in advertisements and looked at several examples. I have also completed the Google form and submitted it.

Step 1: Students, I have attached an article on ethos, pathos and logos. It includes 12 examples of these rhetorical devices in television advertisements. Please read the article, take notes in your journal for key definitions and watch several of the adverts, particularly for rhetorical devices you need some further clarification to understand.

You can read the article by clicking on the image below or opening a new tab with the hyperlink.

Note: Additionally,  I have created a read-actively version of the article. This has my own notes on the side with definitions I recommend you write down. It also has a read-aloud option and settings to adapt the reading options.

To Access: I have added two screenshots below that explain how to access these adjustments. To access the read-actively version click on the image or hyperlink below, create a student account and use the class code- pgbgj

Screen Shot One: Access the settings bar for reading options on the top left corner.

Screenshot Two: Access the read-aloud option in the top right corner.

Step 2: Please complete the questions below. If they are not visible I have also attached the Googleform hyperlink for your convenience.
